Consuming Events

Consuming Events - ShareYaarNow

You need to observe how your audience consumes your events. What is their behavior during your events?

You need to do this so you can give your audience more value. Also see our earlier blog post: 'How Audiences Consume Events and New Ways of Consuming Digital Content'.

There are two major ways that people consume events: passively and actively. These two methods of consumption affect the way that an event should be designed.

Passive Consumption

The passive consumption method is when attendees sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. This is the most common way people consume events and it’s usually how speakers or presenters present themselves.

Active Consumption

Active consumption is when attendees engage with the speaker or presenter by asking questions or talking one-on-one with other attendees throughout an event. This method often results in valuable connections being made between people who share similar interests and passions — like being part of a community — which can lead to future collaborations between those peers or even business partnerships down the road!

For example, if you have an event and they're taking a lot of pictures, then maybe you should have a photo booth at your next event. If they're asking questions during the presentation, then maybe you should have some handouts with answers to common questions.

Here are some of the things that you should observe and then make appropriate changes:

- How long does it take for them to read or watch the content?

- Where do they spend most of their time? Is it on the presentation slides or the speaker's notes?

- How often do they get distracted from what they're doing? If so, what causes them distraction?

- Do they want more information after an event or are they satisfied with what was presented?

Keeping track of such observations will help you to keep your events more in tune with what your audience wants.
