Audience behavior differs between virtual events and in-person events. See our earlier blog post: 'Managing Remote Audiences'. You need different skillsets as an event host when you're conducting online, in-person or hybrid events.
If you're doing a hybrid event, which is both at a venue and simultaneously streamed online, how do you make sure both your in-person and remote audiences are engaged?
This is not easy. If you concentrate too much on the audience at the venue, your remote audience may dis-engage from your event.
Include the entire audience in the conversation. In an online event, it's easy to feel left out if you're not physically present. The host needs to make sure that everyone feels like they're part of the event by checking on them periodically during their session and making sure they have ways to communicate with each other through tools like messaging apps.
Ask participants to post questions they have about specific topics so that the speakers can address them during their presentations. This is a great way to create dialogue between the speakers and audience members who might not be able to attend in person.
A good way to ensure that both in-person and remote attendees (and speakers) feel welcome is by creating online groups where they can connect before, during and after your event takes place.
Through feedback, understand how your audience interacts with your content.
