With use of physical event venues limited, digital venues, i.e., your smart devices, are now the go to 'place' for events. Only now, the 'venue' moves with you.
I have not yet attended any online event that feels the same as attending a live event at a physical location but technology is constantly improving. And there are other things you can do on a live stream event that you may not be able to do at a venue, such as, putting comments that others can see in real time. Event organizers sometimes go live on a video so you can see them but also, simultaneously, live broadcast the audio only content– so if you prefer, you can listen in without having to have a screen in front of you. And after the event, the video and audio recording can be put online for their audience to consume at will.
People are finding new experiences with different ways to consume events. Event organizers are having to learn new skills and technologies to attract and monetize their events.
You’ll need to learn how to engage your audience during a live stream. Some live streaming platforms allow you to appoint a moderator on your live stream, so that while you concentrate on what you are saying and doing, the moderator can welcome your audience as they join, reply to comments and block nuisance messages.
Get familiar with the various live streaming platforms. There are also services that allow you to stream from multiple platforms simultaneously. You need to decide for yourself whether you should stream from multiple platforms or from just one platform exclusively.
How people are consuming events is still evolving so you need feedback from your audience to see what gives them value.
When virtual reality events or holograms become mainstream, this will obviously change the feel of virtual events and again change how events are consumed.
The more data you get about how, when and where your audience consumes your events, the more you will be able to engage them, give them value and grow your audience.
