Don’t Lose Sight of Your Goals

Don’t Lose Sight of Your Goals

What is event marketing?

Why are you organizing your events?

When we talk of event marketing, there are two ways you can think about this.

One is that you are organizing an event and want to promote it to attract an audience and sell tickets, get sponsors for profit.

The second is that you provide a service or sell a product and you want to market this through events – here event marketing is just another marketing channel you use to promote your product or service – just like TV ads, social media marketing, influencer marketing, etc. Your customers attending your event will get a different experience from your other channels of marketing. Here perhaps you are not trying to make a profit out of the event itself but using this as a means to promote your services or products.

In both cases you are obviously trying to promote your event to attract your audience but there may be differences in approach in each case. The important thing here is your goals and the purpose behind organizing your events. There may be an overlap between the two aspects in some cases depending on why you are organizing events.

Whether you charge people to attend your events is totally a matter for you and your judgment. But when people pay for something, they tend to value it more and make sure they get the most out of it. If something is given free, people tend to value it less. Unfortunately, perhaps, people are used to a lot of free content on the Internet.

You need to be clear about what your goals are and why you are organizing your events.

For example, our goal is to grow our startup platform and organizing or sponsoring events may be one of the ways to achieve this.

We sometimes find that in doing events on social media, you tend to get drawn in and focus only on the number of followers you have when that may not be your end goal. You can start to lose sight of your end goal. In our case, if we become social media influencers along the way then that will obviously help as long as we can get our social media followers to go and use our startup platform. Our goal is not to become a social media influencer per se.

Social media is so pervasive now that you wonder whether in any marketing you do, you need to become a social media influencer along the way as part of your marketing strategy?

For some of you, your goal may be to become a social media influencer and doing online events may be one way to achieve this for yourself.

The important point to stress here is that you need to keep sight of your goals and what your purpose is in organizing events and also in using each channel of marketing that you use.
