As an event professional, build your relationships with speakers, sponsors, vendors and suppliers and others in your industry - and of course, your audience.
As you get to know people, be sure to ask about their passions. The answer might surprise you. It could be something you've never heard of before or something that's been on the back burner for years.
Help them grow and improve and so will your events.
When you have a great relationship with those in your industry, they'll be more inclined to work with you on projects. They'll also recommend you to other people in the industry when they know you can deliver on time and have a reputation for quality work.
The speakers or presenters, the vendors who are providing products at the show and the suppliers who are helping you out all want to help you succeed with your events.
Here are some ways to build these relationships:
1) Give them feedback on how they did (or didn't). Did they provide great service? Did they come through on their promises? Did they deliver what was promised? Did they have any problems?
2) Thank them for their efforts — even if everything went perfectly. Show that you appreciate their work and don't take it for granted. If someone did something extra or took care of an issue that wasn't part of the deal, make sure they know it was appreciated by thanking them personally either in person or via email/phone call/letter/etc.
3) Make sure that everyone involved knows who is responsible for what so there's no confusion about who should be doing what at what time during the planning process (and beyond). That way everyone knows who to go to with questions or concerns about something related to their specific area of responsibility.
