You start your event marketing campaign!
You should already have an idea of who your target audience are and what you
want to achieve from your event. Perhaps, not all the ideas given below will be
applicable to your particular event.
Here are some ideas for your event marketing campaign:
1. You've
set the date and venue. While you're planning and organizing your event, you
need to have an event marketing campaign ready to start executing. Your goal is
to get people talking about the event before it happens. How and when you
execute your campaign will be dependent on the time you have before your event.
And some of the steps you take might be done more than once at various
intervals in the run-up to the event.
2. Event
page or website. If you have your own digital real estate – website/app, make
sure your it’s ready for the event. You should have a landing page dedicated to
it with information about the date, time, location and any other details that
people need to know before they buy tickets.
3. Spend
time making sure the event title and description are as appealing as they can
be.
4. Have
an event logo and social media hashtag ready to use.
5. You
can start posting on social media and elsewhere.
- You
should also have a call-to-action in your posts and any advertising so
your audience know want you would like them to do next.
7. If
your event has speakers, put out their images and bio - and get them to also
share this content.
8. When
you post on social media, remember your call-to-action button/link.
9. Get
the venue to also market your event.
10. Send emails
to your subscribers at appropriate intervals.
11. During your
campaign get people to subscribe to your email/newsletter.
12. If you've
done previous events, post any reviews - 'social proof'.
13. Post blogs,
giving more information about your event and topics. Invite speakers to write
guest blogs. Or write guest blogs yourself.
14. Do live
webinars with the speakers and sponsors in the run-up to your event.
15. Get videos
from your speakers and sponsors to post - on-demand content for your target
audience. Video content can be more appealing than simple text.
16. If you have
sponsors, you probably will have planned with them what marketing you will do
together before the event. Fit this in with your overall campaign.
17. If you're exhibiting at someone else's event, check what marketing the event host will be doing to get the most out of their efforts.
18. Party for
speakers and sponsors before the event to create a buzz.
19. Be
consistent with your messaging/narrative throughout.
During and after your event, remember to get content, reviews and
subscribers to your emails for your next event.
Plan your event marketing campaign early on in the process to get the most out your time and effort. Once you’ve done this for one event, you’ll have the basis of a campaign plan for your next one.
